Stephen Paul Hartke (born 6 July 1952) is an American composer. He was born in Orange, New Jersey, grew up in Manhattan, where his first piano teacher was Mary Miley, and has lived in California since the 1980s. Hartke studied at Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of California, Santa Barbara. From 1984 to 1985, he was Fulbright Professor at the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil.
