Samuel Marcus and Tobias Robinson first met in the summer of 2008. As fortuitous meetings go, the pair found themselves in Melbourne, talking about music and playing each other their songs. Marcus had spent the best part of five years on the road with Perth band Ruby’s Grace and Robinson had been playing in the Brisbane based outfit Back to Sea. A shared love of Paul Kelly, The Cure, Ravi Shankar and traditional bluegrass sparked the beginnings of something special - and The Promises were formed.
