Avoid One Thing was started as a side project by former Mighty Mighty Bosstones' bassist Joe Gittleman. The Boston-based group's first album, titled "Avoid One Thing," was released in 2002 on Side One Dummy Records. This album was written and recorded almost solely by Gittleman. Gittleman assembled a band sometime during the recording process (consisting of Amy Griffin, formerly of the Raging Teens, Paul Delano, formerly of Darkbuster, and the late Dave Karcich, formerly of the Pilfers and Spring Heeled Jack) with which to tour and play his music.
