Tulsa's Black Gold Band made its first imprint on the music world with a self-released demo in 2006. Two years later, Oklahoma-based label Little Mafia released their debut full-length, Endless Oklahoma Sky. The album received critical praise to the extent that the title track was in the final running to become the official state rock song, alongside such contemporaries as The Flaming Lips (winner), The All-American Rejects, JJ Cale, Leon Russell, Elvis Presley, Wanda Jackson, and The Ventures.
